Announcement Regarding 2015 North Shelby Monthly Fees

As previously communicated, SWWC Utilities, Inc. has recently completed a major plant upgrade that will enable this utility to meet stringent new phosphorus regulations mandated by the US Environmental Protection Agency and the Alabama Department of Environmental Management designed to protect several plant and animal species in the Cahaba River Basin.

This upgrade enables the utility to meet these strict standards imposed by the new regulations for the next several years.

As a result of this project, and other necessary system investments and cost increases for the aging system, our monthly fees for the availability and/or use of wastewater service must change. Effective January 1, 2015, the new monthly charge will be $100.42 per Equivalent Dwelling Unit. That is, residential accounts will be billed this amount each month while commercial accounts will be charged the appropriate multiple of this fee.

This calculation has been reviewed and approved by the North Shelby Sewer Rate Review Board. The Rate Review Board was established by the Shelby County Commission as the oversight mechanism responsible for examining any annual adjustment to the monthly fee pursuant to the purchase agreement that governs the sewer system’s monthly rate.
