Cub Scouts Learn About the Environment at SWWC

Members of the Cub Scouts of America, Pack 71 visited SouthWest Water Company’s North Shelby Treatment Plant recently to learn more about protecting the environment through quality wastewater treatment.

General Manager Craig Sorensen explained the purpose of the treatment facility and the processes required to treat wastewater to standards set down by the Environmental Protection Agency and the Alabama Department of Environmental Management.

The Scouts then toured the facility, witnessing each stage of the treatment process, including the newly installed equipment that helps reduce levels of phosphorus in the Cahaba River.
